Specialists in bridge design and innovative solutions
MATILDI + PARTNERS is a highly qualified professional design studio that focuses on delivering best-in-class services and innovative, high value-added solutions to all our customers.
We have been working in the civil engineering sector uninterruptedly for over 70 years, during which time we have achieved a position of excellence in the field of bridge design, and in particular for composite system and steel decks, for which we are considered among the best Italian designers.
Our approach to work is based on commitment and an ongoing focus on all our projects right through to their final completion. A fundamental ingredient that has allowed us to acquire a high degree of sensitivity to design over the decades, an indispensable factor in devising innovative solutions that are also optimised for the companies that actually have to carry out the construction.
Our history

1950
MATILDI + PARTNERS was established in 1950, founded by Prof. Pietro Matildi (1917-2002), a graduate in Mathematics from the Scuola Normale in Pisa and later in Engineering in Bari, full professor of Construction Science at the Faculty of Engineering at the Universities of Bari, Trieste and Bologna. His teaching, scientific and regulatory career is evidenced by his prodigious scientific texts and publications on the subject
Pietro marked the beginning of Studio Matildi’s extensive specialisation in the field of steel bridges, of which he was a pioneer in Italy. Indeed, it was in the 1960s that he designed and built the first large-span bridges in Italy on the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway – the Serra and Rago viaducts, with orthotropic plate decks and the use of Corten steel.

1972
In 1972, he was flanked by his son, Prof. Giuseppe Matildi, associate professor of Construction Technology and lecturer in “Theory and Design in Steel Construction” (from 1983 to 2007) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Bologna.
During this time, bridge design was further developed at the technological and factory level, and also went as far as designing the assembly of the large-scale projects that MATILDI + PARTNERS was gradually carrying out.

1992
In 1992, Prof. Giuseppe Matildi took over as head of the associated firm, which also extended its scope of activity to the integrated design of entire road lots, including Lots IV and V of the works to upgrade the north-west quadrant of Rome’s GRA (Gran Raccordo Anulare, or Great Ring Road), both of which were open to traffic in 2006, and the lots of the works to upgrade the A3 Salerno – Reggio Calabria motorway, which is currently under construction.

2003
In 2003, Eng. Carlo Vittorio Matildi, the third generation of the Matildi engineering legacy, joined as a partner. To pursue a specialisation that complemented the existing ones at MATILDI + PARTNERS, he opted to move abroad, first to England and then to China, obtaining a postgraduate diploma in Project Management and the qualification of chartered project manager at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

2014
In 2014, he returned definitively to Italy and joined Prof. Giuseppe Matildi in managing the company, to oversee its third expansion with a plan to introduce new service lines, including the management and coordination of complex projects and the management of projects using Building Information Modelling (BIM).

2023
Matildi+Partners S.r.l. was founded in 2023 with the aim of continuing the firm’s long-standing legacy in design. Our mission involves integrating this heritage with state-of-the-art work tools in BIM mode, tackling complex projects such as providing support to Italferr in designing the metal deck of the new San Giorgio Bridge in Genoa, the reconstruction of the new bridge over the Magra River in Albiano Magra, and the new Leonardo da Vinci bridge in Sasso Marconi.
